I'm sharing my quilt for the Blogger's Quilt Festival...
This was made from the Quiltsmart Dahlia pattern. The pattern had a bunch of foundation fabric, premarked with fold and sew lines. I bought it at the quilt show in Las Vegas one year and then took a class on how to use the pattern at Fabric Boutique in Vegas. Though I like how it turned out, it was a TON of finger pressing. The pattern fabric had some fusible aspect to it and so it couldn't be ironed. Anyhow, I used 1930's fabric and it was quilted by Kalynda Klemmer.
I'd recommend this pattern if you aren't into curved piecing...and you have a lot of time! I've also seen it done in batiks and it is absolutely stunning. ;-D I hope you enjoyed my quilt show...
this quilt is really really beautiful - I love the 1930s fabrics against the white and the squares running into the corners - they really frame it so well
ReplyDeleteIt's so cute in the 30's fabrics, I agree batiks would also be amazing.
ReplyDeletevery pretty! It reminds me of the mandela's my nan used to draw :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm making a Dahlia Quilt at the moment! I've used bright clashing colours but I'm loving it so much I'm already thinking of other colour combos I could do. Yours is simply perfect!!
ReplyDeleteWow this is beautiful! And I love the quilting!!!

This is beautiful. So is it applique?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is applique...in the last step. You build the entire Dahlia and then machine sew it to the background...at least, that is my method. And I pieced the little squares to frame the corners. There were no curves to sew...but I think I've mentally blocked out the whole process. Time consuming...not my usual style!!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors. My hubby even likes it! :)
ReplyDeleteI love it, it's a beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful quilt! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteWow. I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteHey Zany ! I have this pattern. I have had it for two years and read the instructions and decided I would set it aside for a while....lokks like too much work. It would be easier to tackle curved piecing.
ReplyDeleteLove your color and fabric choices and how you added the blocks in the corners....
I'l be back
Marianne

ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteOh. it's just stunning! I love the colors/fabrics you chose and the quilting is magnificent. Beautiful!
ReplyDeletethis is a gorgeous quilt...it's also quite similar to something i'm planning for my oldest daughter, minus some of the curvature i'm adding. i'm really happy to see how beautiful the final product can be - you've inspired me to not be scared of the quilt-to-be!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunner this quilt is. Finger pressing or not it is pretty from the center all the way out to the pink binding. Perhaps surprisingly my favorite part are the little squares! They look great against the white.
ReplyDeletewOw! Your quilt is amazing! I just love the border you created for it too.
ReplyDeletewonderful..

ReplyDeleteDahlia's are one tricky design to get them to lay flat- your piecing has to be so accurate - I really like your fabric choices and the quilting is stunning.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this beautiful traditional pattern made using some modern techniques.
